Six years on one rung, fourteen on the other
Gartner's newest Magic Quadrant for B2B Marketing Automation Platforms has been public for four days, and two placements in it are established. HubSpot's Marketing Hub is a Leader for the sixth consecutive year. Oracle's Eloqua is a Leader for the fourteenth.
Both companies say so themselves, and both say it the same way, as a streak. Neither announcement describes where any other vendor sits, which is both normal and permitted: a vendor announces its own result and nothing else, and in this market most vendors do not announce at all.
What the two placements share is more telling than either alone. Read against the edition they replace, they are the two furthest-apart arguments on the chart, renewed together. The suite built from the small end of the market and the enterprise engine built from the database up both come back with another year attached. The middle of the market, where marketing automation is sold as a layer of somebody else's platform, has published nothing so far that can be reached.
The September 2026 Magic Quadrant for B2B Marketing Automation Platforms, and the bench that scored it
The report is dated 22 September 2026. Its credited analysts are Jeff Cohen, Upasna Chandna, Martin DeWitt and Julian Poulter.
Those names are worth reading closely, because the standard citation line is the only part of a walled analyst document that travels intact. It arrives here from two independent directions, HubSpot's announcement and Oracle's product page, and the two carry the identical line, down to the comma placement and the day-month order.
That the citation is legible from the outside while the document is not is the structural fact of this category. Gartner's own pages return a bot-protection challenge to a direct request and to a headless browser alike, and the licensed reprints that normally carry a figure are not circulating for this edition. What the public holds is a date, four names, and whatever the vendors volunteer.
Three of the five analysts who scored the 2025 edition are gone
The edition this page previously rested on was published 23 September 2025 and credited to Rick LaFond, Jeffrey Cohen, Alan Antin, Upasna Chandna and Nicholas Mortensen. It placed five vendors on the Leaders rung: HubSpot for the fifth consecutive year, Oracle for the thirteenth, Salesforce with Marketing Cloud Account Engagement, Adobe with Marketo Engage, and Creatio.
Compare the two credit lines. Cohen and Chandna carry over. LaFond, Antin and Mortensen do not appear on the 2026 report.
Analyst rotation is ordinary and it is not a finding about any vendor. It is a fact about how a streak should be read. A fourteenth consecutive year is a claim that spans more than a decade of evaluation, and inside that span the people doing the evaluating have changed, the inclusion criteria have been rewritten, and the market being measured has been renamed at least once. The streak is a statement about continuity, and continuity is a property of the product rather than of the bench. Nothing in the published record lets an outside reader separate the two.
A streak is a number only its owner publishes
This is worth stating plainly because it changes what a buyer can do with the chart.
A placement is not a public record. It is a vendor's disclosure of a private document, and a vendor discloses on its own schedule and in its own framing. So the published unit of this market is the streak, because a streak is the one number that makes a placement sound like a pattern rather than a result to be checked.
Six and fourteen are the two streaks established here. Both advanced by exactly one edition over their 2025 values, which is what the arithmetic requires if the placements were renewed. Neither number tells a reader who else is on the rung, how wide the rung is, or what the vendors on it were cautioned for. Every vendor in this category receives a strengths entry and a cautions entry, and the cautions are the half that does not travel.
HubSpot's sixth year reads as a year spent becoming reachable
HubSpot's own account of the year behind the placement is unusually specific, and it describes something other than a marketing suite getting better at marketing.
The company lists HubSpot AEO, for tracking how a brand appears inside AI answer engines; Marketing Studio, for building and nurturing demand in one place; three named agents, Campaign Agent, Content Agent and Nurture Agent; Agent Builder, for assembling custom agents in natural language; and a widening set of connected channels that now includes ChatGPT Ads and Microsoft Advertising. HubSpot describes itself as the first CRM to integrate with ChatGPT Ads.
The part that reads as a departure is underneath those. HubSpot has published an MCP server and native connectors for frontier models, so that agents built elsewhere can operate the platform end to end. Angela DeFranco, the company's VP of Product, frames the year as building for how buying actually works rather than for how campaigns used to be run.
Set that beside the finding of the 2025 edition, which held that marketing automation had been absorbed upward into CRM platforms and downward into all-in-one suites. HubSpot's 2026 announcement describes a second absorption route running in the same direction. The platform is not being swallowed by a suite this time. It is being made callable by agents that live somewhere else, which is a version of the same demotion: the interface becomes a protocol rather than a login, and the marketing automation layer becomes a service that something other than a marketer invokes.
Whether that is strength or exposure depends on who owns the agent, and the announcement does not settle it.
Oracle's fourteenth year is an integration argument, unchanged
Oracle's case is the older one and it has not moved. Eloqua is presented on the strength of AI, scale, security, and its integration into Oracle's own customer data platform, with the platform positioned as the orchestration layer for multichannel campaigns across a buying journey.
Fourteen consecutive years under this name and its predecessors is a long time to hold a position on the same reasoning, and the reasoning is the point. Oracle's argument is that marketing automation should sit inside a data estate the vendor already owns, so that segmentation and attribution run against records the enterprise is not assembling for the purpose.
Read the two Leaders as a pair and the market's oldest split is intact. HubSpot's year is about becoming reachable by outside agents and opening its ecosystem outward. Oracle's year is about keeping the orchestration inward, against a CDP it also sells. Both are Leaders on the same chart, and a buyer choosing between them is choosing which direction their marketing data travels.
Two ends of the market renewed, the middle unaccounted for
The honest limit of this refresh is that two placements out of a field of unknown width are established, and the rest are not.
Salesforce, Adobe, Creatio and the other vendors charted in 2025 have published nothing about the 2026 edition that could be reached here. That is not a statement that they placed badly, or that they placed at all, and it should not be read as one. Adobe's reachable 2026 Gartner recognitions are in personalization engines and in customer journey analytics and orchestration, two different reports, and its standing claim in this category is for the 2025 edition.
So the page cannot tell a reader who the 2026 Leaders are. It can tell a reader what the two confirmed placements were worth to the companies that hold them, which is a streak, and it can tell a reader that the citation line has changed hands.
The practical advice is unchanged from the last edition and it is the reason to ask. The roster of a Magic Quadrant is public through the vendors on it, one vendor at a time. A buyer evaluating this market can assemble the chart themselves by asking each shortlisted vendor for its placement and its full strengths and cautions entry, which is a document the vendor has and the buyer cannot otherwise obtain. That is a slower path than reading a summary, and it is the only path that ends in a primary source.
The questions a streak does not answer
Which edition is being quoted? Six consecutive years and fourteen consecutive years are both true and both refer to a specific report dated 22 September 2026. A sales conversation that cites the streak without the date may be citing an older one, and the 2025 and 2026 editions are different documents.
What was the caution? Every placement comes with one, and it is the part of the evaluation that describes what the platform does not do well. It is also the part that does not appear in an announcement.
Whose agents does the platform answer to? HubSpot's 2026 case turns on being reachable through MCP and connectors by models it does not own. For a marketing operations team, that is a question about control of the execution layer, and it deserves an answer before it becomes an architectural assumption.
What happens to the streak when the analyst changes? Two of the five analysts who scored the 2025 edition are still on the 2026 report. A placement is renewed by a bench, and a buyer should treat a long streak as evidence of sustained inclusion rather than as evidence that the same judgment was applied for fourteen years.

Gartner Magic Quadrant
Category definition, vendor inclusion and quadrant placement in this article draw on the 2026 Magic Quadrant for B2B Marketing Automation Platforms, published 22 September 2026 and credited to Jeff Cohen, Upasna Chandna, Martin DeWitt and Julian Poulter. The report date and analyst credit are taken from the standard Gartner citation line, which appears identically in HubSpot's announcement of 24 September 2026 and on Oracle's Eloqua product page. Only two placements in the 2026 report are established here: HubSpot's Marketing Hub as a Leader for the sixth consecutive year, and Oracle's Eloqua as a Leader for the fourteenth consecutive year, each on the company's own account. No other 2026 placement is asserted. The prior edition, published 23 September 2025 and credited to Rick LaFond, Jeffrey Cohen, Alan Antin, Upasna Chandna and Nicholas Mortensen, placed five vendors as Leaders: HubSpot for the fifth consecutive year, Oracle for the thirteenth, Salesforce with Marketing Cloud Account Engagement, Adobe with Marketo Engage, and Creatio. Adobe's reachable 2026 Gartner recognitions are in personalization engines and in customer journey analytics and orchestration, which are separate reports. Gartner's own pages refused both direct and browser-based requests.

The same shift shows up next door, in Content Marketing Platforms. Gartner's 2026 quadrant says the leading content marketing platforms now feel like an AI operating system rather than a workflow tool, with agents assembling content next to the human editors.
The related category on this site is Cross-Channel Marketing Hubs. Forrester split this market in 2021 because independent vendors were out-innovating the suites. By 2024 it merged the evaluation back together, and every Leader position went to a suite. The basis of competition had moved from messaging to data.
